Paper Owl Films has a New Nest

With keys for a new 5000 sq. foot studio in hand this month, Paper Owl looks forward to some quiet time over the holidays after a spell that has seen two beautiful shows ramp up into production and a development slate grow from strength to strength.

At the time of writing there are over 90 Paper Owls drawing, designing, animating, creating new content that will have meaningful take aways for children all over the world and a lot of laughs as standard.

It was a delight to see Lí Ban go into production with TG4 & S4C & funding from BAI, NI Screen Screen Fund and ILBF. This feisty 12 old’s quests for answers brings her right into the heart of the oldest of our shared stories – the stories of the celtic regions. It’s got adventure, anime, ancient villains and a big heart and we can wait to see the splash she will make internationally through distribution partner Aardman.

Together with BBC Children’s,  King Banana and CAKE Entertainment Ltd. we launched production on 52x11min Nikhail and Jay bringing fresh new stories onto screen through the vision of creator, Chitra Soundar.

Happy the Hoglet is riding the preschool emotional rollercoaster with his friends in Sunny River.  Since hitting Irish and UK Screens a year ago, they’ve all charmed audiences on RTÉJr., ITVX and around the world.

Happy’s latest adventures see the brand partnering with Aardman’s ‘Timmy and Friends’ channel aswell as rolling onto screens across the world in Hong Kong, Israel, Finland, Latvia, Australia, Norway, Greece, Portugal and the Czech Republic with some exciting FAST news coming next year.

Bóín agus Beach’ / Ladybird and Bee Series launched brand new stories in the on RTÉJr. and RTÉ player celebrating how the smallest things play a beautiful part in creating balance in the world. These bestie beasties have flown all over the world with trusty distributor Jetpack Distribution making sure they fly.

UISCE UISCE!  Made a big slash on TG4’ new Cúla 4 channel in September – an action packed celebration of what the water means to the young people of Ireland.  It is a unique showcase of the recreational, cultural and historical significance of Ireland’s lough, sea and river-scapes – as seen through the eyes of children.

From Dublin Bay to the Aran Islands, Dingle Peninsula to Belfast Lough, the series is filmed across Ireland and follows the adventures of 8 to 12 year-olds as they navigate the waterways nearest them. Surfing, sailing, dolphin spotting, treasure hunting, raft building and pier jumping are just some of the activities the children experience over 12 high-octane, action-packed episodes. There are some close encounters with sharks and always an appreciation of how important our seas are to who we are and what our future will become.

Our beloved Pablo is still championed by CBeebies and RTÉJr. and continues with his preschool mission to create autism acceptance around the world. The show continues to be the joy of our studio with every eye opening realisation it’s brought to our work and the teams who create it. Development has been going very well for an older, bolder reimagining of the brand next year. Watch this fish out of water space!

There have been awards and nominations, there have been problems and solutions ( and problems and…), joys and heartbreaks. It’s been a rollercoaster of a year and we are strapping ourselves in for the work ahead and an audience that is ever changing, ever challenging and ever inspiring us to be better grown ups.  Happy Holidays from all the Paper Owls!
