Lighthouse Studios’ Festive Antics and Business Celebrations

In October, Lead Background Artist at Lighthouse Studios, Sarah Sloyer, delivered two wonderful illustration workshops as part of Bookville 2023 – a Kilkenny initiative that celebrates books and encourages youngsters to get involved in reading, writing and artistic endeavours. Animator Polly Holland also participated by developing a fun double-page activity spread for this year’s Festival in a Book.

During the studio’s October Show and Tell, there were a few guest appearances from well-known characters, including Baronness Von Bon Bon from The Cuphead Show! Congratulations to Marty and Ivanna for their work on their Hallowe’en costumes, which won joint first place at the in-house fancy dress contest.

In November, Head Creative, Gilly Fogg, was invited to speak at Culture Crush event on the panel Creative Ireland on the Global Stage. The event was run by Cultural and Creative Industries Skillnet and offered attendees a day-long programme packed to the brim with inspiring and engaging discussion.

Also in November, the studio’s Finance Director, Marc Jordan, completed an 8-day intensive course in International Business for Film and TV with Angus Finney, in association with Screen Ireland – also attending Cartoon Business in Gran Canaria in the middle of it all! Marc fully immersed himself in both experiences, topping up his extensive knowledge of the business side of animation while also forging new connections in the industry.

December was wrapped up nicely at Lighthouse with our end-of-year Festive Fiesta where crew partied till the early hours and put their new-found flamenco dancing skills to good use! Lighthouse also hosted some important visitors in December, including Heath Kenny of You and Eye Creative, who was here for a creative brainstorm with our development team. The studio also welcomed Julio Bonet, Ashley Brennan, Julie Abecassis and Claire Mooney from Netflix, who popped in for a tour of the studio where The Cuphead Show! was animated. Huge congratulations to Netflix and The Cuphead Show on the recent win at The Emmys, where directors Clay Morrow and Adam Paloian took home the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for an Animated Program for their work on the series!
