Baz Ashmawy to host this year’s Irish Animation Awards

Animation Ireland has announced that broadcaster Baz Ashmawy will host the 2021 Irish Animation Awards on Friday May 21.

The biennial awards ceremony is the premier event in the Irish animation calendar and this year’s will take place virtually. Once again, the awards show will highlight the brilliance and talent of the Irish animation sector.

Among the nominations in the 20 categories this year is Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar-nominated film Wolfwalkers, which features in all seven available categories. Giant Animation/Magic Light Picture’s Zog and the Flying Doctors, which aired on BBC One on Christmas Day, received four nominations.

For their preschool series, Chico Bon Bon: Monkey with a Tool Belt, Brown Bag Films picked up three nominations, while VamperinaDorg Van DangoBallybraddanBug Diaries and Pablo also picked up multiple nods.

Commenting on announcing Baz as the MC for the awards ceremony, Animation Ireland Chief Executive, Ronan McCabe, said; ‘’We’re delighted to have Baz on board to host the awards ceremony. He’s a brilliantly entertaining TV and radio presenter, so we’re sure he’ll do a fantastic job.

“This year the event will be virtual but we are still going to be putting on a great show. We’ll be livestreaming the ceremony on Facebook and YouTube from 7pm on Friday 21st, and the link is available and free to all at www.irishanimationawards.ie.’’
