BAFTA win and Emmy nominations for Lighthouse Studios

The team at Lighthouse Studios had plenty of reasons to celebrate this quarter. El Deafo, the 2D special produced at Lighthouse for Apple TV+, won the studio’s first BAFTA Children & Young People’s award in the Content for Change category at November’s ceremony in London. This is the third award for El Deafo in 2022, after Prix Jeunesse and Humanitas wins earlier this year.

El Deafo also received a nomination for the inaugural Children & Family Emmys, as did another Lighthouse-animated production, The Cuphead Show! (Netflix). The ceremony takes place in LA on the 11th of December.

Two new Appointments at Lighthouse

Lighthouse Studios recently announced that Ferdinand Lorena has been appointed the new Head of 2D Animation, the latest in a string of strategic promotions at the studio. Ferdinand has been with Lighthouse since 2018, most recently serving as Animation Director. He brings a huge amount of talent to the table alongside many years of wide and varied experience, gained in lots of different countries by practicing a variety of styles.  Congratulations, Ferdinand!

Earlier in the quarter, Lighthouse welcomed Antonio Caamaño to the team as Development Producer. The newly created position is testament to the studio’s recent commitment to begin developing its own IP, and follows on from last quarter’s announcement that Lighthouse will soon be adapting the graphic novel, Savage Town. Antonio is no stranger to Kilkenny, having previously worked at fellow Kilkenny animation studio, Cartoon Saloon. Watch this space!
