Turnip + Duck and Treehouse Republic join forces to produce new animated bridge comedy based on chemistry

Welcome to Atom Town, a colourful community of characters based on the Elements that
make up the universe. In life, we all know that everyone is different and we all have our own
unique personalities, and the Atoms of Atom Town are no different. As we follow their
day-to-day adventures, we’ll see them play together, solve problems, often spark off each
other, and ultimately learn the value of teamwork and diversity.

We’ll meet Oxygen, the bubbly optimist whose enthusiasm and lust for life makes her the
lifeblood of Atom Town; Carbon, her trusty sidekick who is always nearby to lend a hand (or
a pencil, or diamond, or lump of coal…); Helium, the squeaky-voiced perfectionist who sees
herself as the noblest of gases; Calcium, the plucky little Atom who just loves drinking milk;
Sulfur & Phosphorus, the unfortunate comedy pair who despite their stinky odour are in fact
essential for life; plus many, many more!

Atom Town is a 26 x 5’ animated physical comedy for 3-6 year olds, featuring a large
colourful cast of Atoms that kids will love. Atom Town introduces kids to fundamental
chemistry concepts in a very subtle way – through action-packed storytelling,
character-based comedy, dazzling animation and the occasional fart. It’s learning by stealth.
Atom Town co-creators Aidan O’Donovan and Colm Tobin of Turnip + Duck say, “We’re so
happy that Atom Town is finally hitting screens. We hope this is just the beginning, and that
in time Atom Town will make the language of chemistry as familiar to kids as that of the
dinosaurs.”

Dale Robinson of Treehouse Republic, co-creators of Atom Town says, “We can’t wait to
bring the colourful antics of Atom Town to the world. We believe that bringing chemistry to
pre-schoolers through fun and excitement will help make chemistry more accessible in later
life.”

Dr. John O’Donoguhe, Chemistry Educator and Researcher at TCD says, “Atom town is so
much fun! The chemical elements are the fundamental building blocks of everything in the
universe and are part of the language of science. Atom Town gives children a subtle
introduction to the world of science through play and adventure, and I hope they will build on
that foundational knowledge for many years to come.”

Atom Town is produced by Treehouse Republic and Turnip + Duck for RTÉjr, with support
from Screen Ireland and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. The series is produced with
the support of incentives for the Irish Film Industry provided by the Government of Ireland.
Atom Town airs December 19th on RTÉjr and will be available to stream on the RTÉ Player.
