ALT Animation is an independent Northern Irish animation studio formed in 2016 by Andrea & Lee McQuade and Tim Bryans. ALT was designed to bring exciting and engaging content to global audiences of all ages. Through service work, co-productions and original IP this remains our goal.

In 2020, ALT was the only animation studio in the UK to be awarded single project development funding from Creative Europe. This is for their first animated feature – Lugi – The Brodgar Boy as well as being one of the first companies to receive development funding from the Young Audiences Content Fund.

ALT was responsible for producing all of the animated, compositing and VFX content for award-winning mixed media series ‘Mimi’s World’, produced in collaboration with Adastra Development. The 40 x 11 min pre-school series was commissioned by Channel 5’s Milkshake! and aired in 2023.

Released in 2023 on RTE Jnr, Sullivan Sails was ALT’s first Co-Produced series with Ireland’s Distillery Films.

ALT is currently in production of the first season of Doodle Girl with Studio Meala for RTE. Working together they have also recently completed work on ALT’s short film – To Break A Circle.

In July 2023 ALT’s Captain Onion’s Buoyant Academy for Wayward Youth was one of three projects commissioned from BBC’s first Ignite animation scheme.
