Studio 9 is one of the lucky 10 Irish studios awarded a commission from RTE to make a 2 minute animation ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas- a contemporary telling‘. The studio worked with writer Saoirse Anton on a contemporary version of the classic Clement Clarke Moore poem A Visit from St. Nicholas . The poem has been reimagined for modern Ireland, celebrating the diversity of our island today while maintaining its expression of joy and magic.
The piece will be a mixture of stop motion animation and replacement paper. The sets being 3D constructions from paper with the characters being cut out frame by frame and shot in the paper set.
Peter Donnelly (The Presidents Cat, and The Presidents Glasses) designed the characters and Hugh Fowler is writing an original composition and designing the soundscape. The short film is aimed at the 5-8 year olds.
All shorts will be aired on RTE platforms over the Christmas season.
