Lighthouse Studios are now on the hunt for an experienced 2D Lighting Lead who will join us in our quest to create the best possible visual content for our partners.

The start date for this role is 10th of June 2024.

This role is based in Lighthouse studio in Kilkenny. – NO FREELANCE OPTION

Due to employment time constraints, for this role we will only be able to consider applications from residents within the EU / EU passport holders only.

The role is for a 2D animated feature film directed by John Schafer and Tom Bancroft, with a hybrid mix of traditional and rigged animation. 

About the role

Embark on an exciting journey as a 2D Lighting lead, where you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting the team to light characters and props for our animated feature film. Your tasks will range from employing hand-drawn lighting techniques to utilizing advanced methods like offset rim lighting, all while ensuring the creation of cast shadows where needed. You will also be responsible for assisting the supervisor with various administrative tasks. Join our team and contribute to the atmospheric depth and visual richness of our cinematic world. What you’ll be doing

  • Perform artistic tasks and use creative and technical problem solving to create desired effects.
  • Organize and manage your work and files efficiently while working with the department’s naming conventions.
  • Produce Lighting on shots, help prep expanding our library for future scenes, and on occasion design references if needed
  • Ensure work is completed on schedule and to production standards.
  • Help the supervisor support the team with creative as well as technical expertise
  • Review workload and communicate any issues to the Supervisor.
  • Assist with other production tasks which require communication across departments.
  • Identify and communicate any issues that may occur during the production.

The above is not exhaustive and from time to time you may be asked to carry out other tasks.

What LHS are looking for

  • 2+ years’ experience working in a production environment in Traditional Animation, Toon Boom Harmony
  • Demonstrated experience, comprehension and understanding of classical animation as well modern techniques utilising rigged animation
  • Solid drawing skills
  • Drive, determination and creative problem-solving skills
  • Drive and readiness to learn to use technical solutions to help streamline the process
  • Effective and professional communication skills
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be willing to relocate to Kilkenny
