Lighthouse Studios are on the hunt for mid – senior level background lead artists who will join us in our quest to create the best possible animated content for our partners.

The artists will be needed from 6th of August 2024 and the term of this contract will be 13th of December 2024.

Rick and Morty is a classified 16+ show and while the subject matter of the show is presented in a fantasy or comic context, the production may contain contextually justified strong language, references to sex, drugs, horror, threat, and/or violence of a non-gratuitous nature, which some applicants may find objectionable.  Lighthouse will always seek to reasonably accommodate those applicants with conscientious or other objections, however given the nature of both the role and subject matter, this may not always be possible. About the role

As a background lead artist, you will contribute to the animation process via colouring the layouts provided and work to a weekly quota

What you’ll be doing

  • Assist the Supervisor in the design, development and delivery of backgrounds – masters and episodic
  • Work with your Supervisor to create these key backgrounds based on layouts referencing conceptual artwork and location designs.
  • Work very closely with your supervisor, the background team (approximately 6 Background artists and maybe some interns) the Layout department, and occasionally the Comp dept.
  • Communicate in a clear manner to the Supervisors and Art director’s vision to the Background team.
  • Assist the background department to follow your lead and keep the production on schedule.
  • Ensure that relevant departments are fully aware of the status of your departments progress.

The above is not exhaustive and from time to time you may be asked to carry out other tasks.

What they’re looking for

  • 3+ years of industry experience as a lead background artist
  • Strong understanding of Colour and Light
  • Experienced in digital painting using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work.
  • Attention to detail and ability to find solutions.
  • Experience with Shotgrid is considered a plus.
  • Experience in replicating Traditional Media digitally is considered a plus.
  • Must be a team player
  • Must know how to lead a team and maintain the team morale
