Irish Animation Talent to Join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Animation Ireland would like to extended a huge congratulations to Louise Bagnall (Late Afternoon), Nuria González Blanco (Late Afternoon), Gerry Shirren (Song of the Sea) on their invitations to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in their branches of animation and short films.

The invitations demonstrate the continued success for Irish talent, as three Irish invitees received Oscar nominations at the Academy Awards for their projects, and have built steady and rising careers over time working in the Irish film industry.

Louise Bagnall is the Oscar-nominated writer and Director of Late Afternoon, a Frameworks animated short film, which Nuria González Blanco produced for Cartoon Saloon.

Gerry Shirren is managing director and producer at Cartoon Saloon, where he executive produced the animation The Breadwinner, which received an Oscar nomination in 2017 for Best Animated Feature.

The Academy announced yesterday that 842 new members from 59 countries have been invited to join, 50 percent of whom are female and 29 percent are people of colour.
