Cardel Champions New Talent With RTE And Screen Ireland Animations

At Cardel, we believe in the power of animation to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences. We’ve built up an extensive portfolio of projects including award-winning tv specials, such as “The Presenter” and the IFTA-nominated and a RTS winner “Dagdas Harp” and IFTA-nominated “Gunter Falls in Love”, and more recently the animated sequences of Edgars Wrights’s film “The Sparks Brothers” starring the voices of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

We’re always on the lookout for powerful new voices and creators who have bold visions. Keeping this in mind it’s with great pleasure that we can proudly announce two exciting animations currently in production, “ReRooted” and “Drawn Together”. Our first project “ReRooted” is funded through Screen Ireland’s Frameworks program, the premier funding initiative for short animation. The film was one of four unique animations selected for development from a wealth of submissions. The film is the brainchild of the visionary minds of Directors Christian Spurling, and Delphine Coudray.

“Rerooted” is a quirky dystopian black comedy that defies expectations and doesn’t disappoint. The film touches on ideas of legacy and environmentalism and does so in a playful, tongue-in-cheek way. Cardel is especially excited to partner with Screen Ireland and RTE on this project, as they have such a rich history with animation. We’ve rustled up a mighty crew with some of Ireland’s best young animators to help bring this film to life, and we have veteran composer Patrick Hatchette on scoring duties. All in all the project is in a great place and I think this will be one to keep an eye on.

The second project “Drawn Together” was selected as part of a general call out by RTE for a short animation dealing with the theme of “Home”. “Drawn Together” was developed with Cardel and the talented young director Domhnall Cotter and emerging producer Michael Lee. The project is funded and executive produced by Eimear O’Mahony at RTE and produced by Cardel. “Drawn Together” is a heartwarming short film about a single father and son who move into a pristine new home, but who start to clash when his son’s artistic expression gets out of control.

At Cardel we have a real love for animation and story and RTE shares that so we couldn’t ask for better partners, we’re honestly thrilled to get the chance to work on this.

It’s still 2023, but 2024 is gearing up to be a very busy year and we look forward to bringing both of these films to audiences in the new year.
