ANiMPACT: New Sustainability Standards for Animation and Free Green Animation Training

At this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Ecoprod, together with CineRegio and Green Film, officially launched the ANiMPACT Standards, a new international framework designed to support more sustainable animation production across Europe and beyond. Animation Ireland, alongside representatives from Cartoon Saloon, were pleased to be present at the launch of this important initiative.

Developed through extensive collaboration with public bodies, industry professionals and sustainability experts, the ANiMPACT Standards provide a practical and auditable framework for 2D and 3D animated productions, including feature films, series, shorts, documentaries and commercials. More than 120 organisations across Europe endorsed the initial Statement for European Sustainability Standards in Animation, demonstrating the industry’s strong commitment to building a more sustainable future.

The standards combine mandatory and voluntary measures across seven key areas, including governance and corporate responsibility, digital workflows, energy use, transport, catering, merchandising, and communications. Following a public consultation involving contributors from 18 countries, ANiMPACT is now entering its pilot phase, inviting European productions to test the standards on real projects before the certification scheme is formally introduced.

Alongside the development of the standards, Ecoprod continues to provide valuable learning resources through its STEP UP online training platform.

Members who would like to learn more about sustainable production practices can now watch a recording of Ecoprod’s recent Green Animation webinar, which explores the ANiMPACT Standards, their development, and how studios and productions can begin implementing greener workflows.

We encourage all Animation Ireland members with an interest in sustainable production to explore the free training resources available on the STEP UP platform and discover how the animation industry is working together to reduce its environmental impact.
