Animation Ireland Sponsors James Horgan Award for Best Animation at this years Galway Film Fleadh!

It has been a busy Summer already for Animation Ireland, following on from the Irish Animation Awards, and Annecy, our members were well represented at the Galway Film Fleadh last weekend. This year, Animation Ireland proudly sponsored the Oscar-Qualifying James Horgan Award for Best Animation (Short)! Chair of the Animation Ireland Board, Moe Honan, presented the award to Jessica Patterson & Shauna Cullen from JAM Media for Worry World! Our member studio Brown Bag sponsored the Best First Short Animation Award which they presented to film “Pinokidoni”, directed, written and produced by Jack C. The National Talent Academies also hosted a very successful Networking BBQ on Sunday 16th at 2.30PM in the Galmont Hotel.

It was a big year for animation this year at the 35th Fleadh. We were privileged to attend the irish premiere of JAM Media’s Greyhound of a Girl, Directed by Enzo D’alo, this adaptation of the original Irish novel by Roddy Doyle features the voices of Irish talents Brendan Gleeson, Sharon Horgan, Rosaleen Linehan, Charlene McKenna and Mia O’Connor.

JAM Media also premiered their new short film, ‘Worry World‘. Written by Hugh O’Conor, directed by Jessica Patetrson and produced by Shauna Cullen, Worry World is an 8 minute hybrid animated short which explores the question, What if everyone could see your thoughts? In a dystopian society where your every thought is on display, a young factory worker dreams of love, and making her escape.

As always, many wonderful animated short films were shown at Galway’s Town Hall Theatre. elk.Studios premiered ‘The Last Set‘, The Irish Talent: New Shorts 8: Animation category saw Cardel Entertainment’s ‘The Presenter’ (available to watch here), ‘Animus’ from Taunt Studios and ‘The Small Makings of a Storm’ by this year’s winner of Best Student Film at the Irish Animation Awards, Avery Angle!

Animation Ireland’s CEO, Ronan McCabe facilitated a Q&A after the Irish Premiere of “A Greyhound of a Girl”, with writer Roddy Doyle, Director Enzo D’Alò and some members of the cast.
