Animation Ireland attended a three day mission (8-10th May) to Turin lead by CartoonItalia and supported by Creative Europe Desk Italy MEDIA – Ufficio di Torino, Film Commission Torino Piemonte e FIP – Film Investimenti Piemonte.
The main focus of the mission was to connect 9 Irish Producers from the dynamic, growing industry in Ireland, to the Italian market and its producing companies. Animation Ireland member companies who attended were Daily Madness, elk.Studios, Giant Animation, Kavaleer, Monster Entertainment, Mooshku, Pink Kong Studios, Treehouse Republic and Turnip & Duck.
Several meetings and panel discussions took place over the course of the three days, with presentations and keynotes from CartoonItalia (Alfio Bastiancich), Animation Ireland (Ronan McCabe, AI Treasurer & Board Member); Film Commission Torino Piemonte (Paolo Manera), Creative Europe Desk Italy (Silvia Sandrone), Dea Kids (Brenda Maffuchi, Antonella Prencipe), Disney (Elizabeth De Grassi), RAI (Sara Cabras or Mussi Bollini),Nickelodeon (Cecilia Padula). There was also the evening seminar ‘Aperitoon’ with guests speakers from Creative Europe Desk Italy, ASIFA Italy, Cartoon Italia, Animation Ireland, Experimental Center of Cinematography, as well as speeches by La Sarraz Pictures, Graffiti Doc, Stefania Gallo, Alfredo Cassano. This three day mission was a unique opportunity for Irish and Italian delegations, as well as EU industry stakeholders to meet and ignite potential partnerships, while also showcasing both Ireland’s and Italy’s vibrant animation sector.
Other highlights of the mission included visits to the International Book Forum 2019 at Scuola Holden; the Film Commission Torino Piemonte; the Animation Dept. of the Experimental Center of Cinematography; Studio Ibrido (animation studio); RAI Production Center in Turin(national broadcaster); and National Cinema Museum of Turin all guided by the CartoonItalia.
