Captain Morten and the Spider Queen co-produced by Telegael (Ireland), Nukufilm (Estonia), Grid Animation (Belgium) and Calon (Wales) has been nominated for Best Animation Film at this year’s National Film Awards UK where it will compete against ‘Early Man’, ‘Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires’, ‘Peter Rabbit’, ‘Sherlock Gnomes’ and ‘Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero’.
The National Film Awards is one of Europe’s leading film and television awards ceremonies, held and produced by the National Film Academy. The star-studded awards ceremony will take place in London on the 28th of March 2019.
‘Captain Morten and the Spider Queen’ produced on a budget of €10 million, is the first feature length stop-motion film to be animated in Ireland. The all-Irish cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Pauline McLynn, Ciarán Hinds and Michael McElhatton, stand–up comedians Mario Rosenstock, Jason Byrne, Tommy Tiernan and Neil Delamere as well as young up and coming Irish talent Cian O’Dowd and Susie Power who play the roles of Morten and Eliza.
