Telegael announces 2 new feature animations

Telegael partners with Pop Family Entertainment and Studio 100 on a new CGI animated movie BEING BETTY FLOOD

Being Betty Flood is a family-friendly comedy, filled with colour, magic and music. This
animated feature is aimed at 8–13 year-olds and family viewing. The storyline is based on the
books THE FLOODS by Australian author Colin Thomson. This 13-book series has been in the
market for upwards of 12 years, published in multiple territories and translated into multiple
languages.

Telegael will co-produce this CGI animated feature with Pop Family Entertainment
(Australia). Substantial elements of preproduction including storyboard, prop and
background design and modelling, voice recording, music, picture and sound post
production will be carried out at the Telegael studios in An Spidéal, Galway with at least 4
Irish main character voices being recorded in the Telegael studios using Irish cast. Being
Betty Flood will use the Amazon AWS Nimble Animation Studio system.
Music is an important element in the story of the film and the original music score will include
strong traditional Irish musical and lyrical influences to be specially composed and recorded
by renowned Irish composer and musician, Colm Mac Con Iomaire.
Being Betty Flood is the universal story of every teenager’s search to find themselves –
except this soon-to-be teenager discovers her family is on the run from the sorcerer-king of
a distant land and her musical talents are more than they seem. Betty’s journey takes her
from the sleepy town of Misty Falls to a land where magic rules … but music plans a
rebellion.

Betty’s story is a journey of self-discovery and identity, as she searches for the truth about
her family’s past and tries to find her own place in the world.
The film is a stage for diversity and unique voices. It celebrates culture and champions what
makes us different.
“Telegael is excited to work with our colleagues POP Entertainment and Studio 100 on such
a wonderful and important story that not only follows Betty on her quest to uncover her
family’s secret past but understands a teenager’s journey of self-discovery.” said Cathy Ní
Fhlaithearta, Producer on behalf of Telegael.
Studio 100 Media have been contracted as International sales and delivery is set for Autumn
2023.

Telegael to Co-Produce Oscar Wilde’s THE CANTERVILLE GHOST adaptation

The Canterville Ghost is a high-quality CGI animated feature based on Oscar Wilde’s humorous short story “The Canterville Ghost”. It was the first of Wilde’s stories to be published.

This animated feature will be co-produced by Telegael (Ireland), Space Age Films (UK), Sprout Pictures (UK) and Toonz Entertainment (India). Telegael will oversee the Picture Post Production and Music Composition at its studios in An Spidéal, Galway. Telegael have engaged the services of award-winning Irish composer Eímear Noone (World of Warcraft, Two by Two: Overboard) to compose and record the music score for “The Canterville Ghost”.

The Canterville Ghost is an eerie, charming, and heart-warming story with touches of humour, following Sir Simon de Canterville’s ghost, who has been dwelling in his ancestral mansion for 300 years. His quiet life will be unsettled when an American family — a prominent Bostonian, his wife, daughter, and twin boys — move into the house. The ghost tries with all his might to scare them away but fails miserably. The family finds him to be a bit of a nuisance and not scary at all. Moreover, he develops a deep tie with the family’s teenage daughter.

The illustrious voice cast features Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Freddie Highmore, Emily Carey, Imelda Staunton, Meera Syal, David Harewood, Miranda Hart, and Toby Jones.

“Telegael is excited to work with our colleagues Space Age Films, Sprout Pictures and Toonz Entertainment on such a high concept multinational co-production. This classic tale by Ireland’s Oscar Wilde is still part of the English language curriculum in various countries including the United States of America, Canada, France, Italy, India, and the Czech Republic.” said Telegael CEO, Paul Cummins.

The Canterville Ghost with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, not only reunites those two great comic geniuses, but is a truly global production, pulling in talent from Ireland, the UK, India and New Zealand to work on the film. Oscar Wilde belongs to everybody and is as profound and relevant today as he ever was. We think there is something for everyone in our animated movie.” said Space Age Films MD, Robert Chandler.

Los Angeles based Cinema Management Group (CMG) will handle the international sales.
