Animation Skillnet Autumn update

Animation Skillnet had a great summer of networking, learning, and upskilling! Straight back from a busy Annecy International Animated Film Festival, we launched into two intense and successful weeks of Bootcamps with recent graduates in June: the 2D Animation Graduates – Next Step Bootcamp and 3D Animation Graduates – Next Step Bootcamp offered 24 participants targeted workshops with Animation professionals and Workplace coaches to help them transition smoothly from college to studio environment. We were delighted to hear that a number of the students went on to secure jobs in different studios! This course was devised and run in partnership with Screen Skills Ireland and in consultation with Boulder Media, Brown Bag Films, Giant, Jam Media and Pink Kong Studios.

Over the past few months, we continued to offer in-house courses to various Animation Studios, such as Emotional Intelligence, Dignity & Respect in the Workplace and English Language for Animation

In August, we helped game developers, small business owners, artists and free-lancers to get their head around tax, compliance, accounts and contract law with our Business 101 for Creative Startups one-day course.

At the end of the month, we were delighted to welcome the award winning Animator and artist Greg McLeod, our guest for an informal talk “Accessing Your Creative Mind Pipe”, exploring the subject of creativity and ideas generation, in partnership with Screen Skills Ireland.

The summer was also full of exciting news in the area of higher & continued education, as we announced a range of programmes we have been working on for a while: a Post-Graduate Diploma in Creative Leadership, in partnership with Screen Skills Ireland and TU Dublin, a new Certificate in Production Management for Animation in association with IADT and Screen Skills Ireland via Springboard+ and a CGI Technical Artist Apprenticeship, in association with Technological University Dublin and Screen Skills Ireland.

As for the Autumn, we have started our evening courses with an Introduction to ZBrush 2019 – Level I and English Language for Animation and Other Creative Studios with Everest Language School, both taking place every Monday night for 5 weeks. We will end September with a two-day course in Assistant Editing for Animated Features with Rachel Brennan, in partnership with Screen Skills Ireland.
We are now preparing more exciting courses, events and special guests coming up between then and Christmas: Kilkenny Animated, John Nevarez, Rad Sechrist, Estrela Lourenço, Hal Hickel, Schoolism Live and of course our evening classes in November & December!
