Animated Virtual Reality film ‘AURORA’ launches worldwide

The latest short film from award-winning Irish animation studio, Pink Kong Studios, AURORA, launched to a global audience on Steam, Viveport and Oculus. The film marks the directorial virtual reality debut of Aoífe Doyle (director, IFTA-nominated Departure) and has already received accolades on the international festival circuit.

Since its world premiere at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival (ADIFF) in February this year, AURORA has gone on to be nominated for ‘Best VR Film of the Year’ at the VRAwards London (alongside Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs VR and Academy Award®-winner Carne y Arena from Alejandro G. Iñárritu), ‘Best 3D VR content’ at The Lumiere Awards EMEA (Stereopsia). The film also took home the Monolith Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Immersive VR’ at the inaugural Infinity Film Festival (IFF) in Beverly Hills in November ’18, as well ‘Best Animation for Apps, Gaming and Interactive’ at this year’s Irish Animation Awards.

This strikingly visual film is a story about life and loss, the changing seasons and the very nature of time itself. Set in a beautiful forest clearing the film takes the audience on an uplifting journey through the lives of a young family and all who inhabit the world. A room-scale experience for HTC-Vive and Oculus, AURORA allows the audience to get up close and personal with the story, inviting them into emotional moments filled with nature and humanity. An original musical score by Rod Morris beautifully guides the audience through the powerful sounds and visuals of nature.

The Film is produced by Niamh Herrity of Dublin’s Pink Kong Studios and was made with the support of Screen Skills Ireland and Audi Ireland. AURORA will have further platform releases in 2019 including, but for now you can download this title on Oculus, Steam, Viveport and Viveport
